Recently I found myself purchasing the Neewer RGB61 from Amazon. It arrived yesterday, giving me time to play around with it and discover all it's features. So, was it worth it?
The Neewer RGB61 is a pocket-sized light, capable of 2500K-8500K white colouring, as well as a wide range of RGB colours, easily customisable; each setting has it's own brightness and hue filters also. On top of that, there are 20 different "scene modes" - custom built-in effects, such as Cop Car, Lightning and Candle. All of these settings are packed into 4 buttons on a magnetic light which can fit in your back pocket, all contained under a plastic softbox diffuser.
It did take a little bit of time to get used to the different modes each button has access to. For example, the power button also doubles as a settings shift when pressed. But, the main thing that grabbed my eye from the beginning was the LED display on the back. Not only does it show how much battery the light has left, it also shows the warmth of the white light, the Hue of the coloured, and the names of the 20 scenes. The LED display is also not very bright, meaning it doesn't interfere with the real light, but is bright enough to easily be seen, even in sunlight. The addition of the colour strip above is a nice touch, as you can clearly get a visual of what colour you're looking for, and can easily know how to navigate to it without much additional thought.
This light also has the built-in access to be attached to a tripod, thanks to the mount at the bottom. It also has 3 Cold Shoe mounts along the three other sides, but I seldom have reason to use them. The light comes with its own charging cord: a standard USB-A to USB-C, though you do have to provide a power brick yourself.
So, all in all, is it worth it? Yes! Despite all the features listed, it only costs AUD$55, so it is an absolute steal! The light itself isn't overly bright, and would not be able to handle itself under much brighter studio lights or outdoors. But, for standard indoor usage, it is absolutely fantastic! I'm so glad that I bought it, and can't wait to be able to use it on set!!
